ABOUT AMANDEEP SINGH VIRDI
Amandeep completed his DPhil in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford where he was sponsored by Rolls-Royce and the EPSRC to undertake research on high-pressure gas turbine blades. His research goals were to understand the aerothermal performance of high-pressure gas turbine blade tips and presented his major finding at the ASME Turbine Blade Tip Symposium and his work was also published in the AIAA Journal of Propulsion and Power. His project involved a joint experimental and computational study that was predominately CFD based. His experimental work involved the operation, maintenaince and testing of a high-speed wind tunnel. His main goals were to seek methods to improve the aerodynamic and heat transfer performance of the vulnerable tip region. He developed a novel cooling approach to improve the lifespan of blade and blade tip that was patented by his supervisor and belongs to Rolls-Royce. Prior to his DPhil, Amandeep completed a BSc and an MSc in Mathematics where he specialised in both Pure and Applied Mathematics. Amandeep currently works for Aon Hewitt as an Actuarial Analyst. He recently joined the Risk Settlement Group specialising in longevity modelling.
