About Amanda Brown-Stevens
Amanda brings a strategic vision for Greenbelt Alliance and the Bay Area informed by her experience in advocating for well-planned cities and towns and the protection of our region’s iconic greenbelt lands for over two decades. As Executive Director, Amanda has overseen an updated mission and vision for the organization to build on Greenbelt Alliance’s incredible legacy and meet the climate-related challenges facing our region today. During her tenure, Greenbelt Alliance has increased organizational expertise in nature-based interventions reducing fire and flood risk, and has deepened and broadened local community partnerships around the Bay Area with a focus on communities most vulnerable to climate hazards. Greenbelt Alliance also continues to be a leader in making the environmental and climate case for infill housing around the region and a strong voice for protecting our region’s iconic open spaces, wildlife habitat, and farmland from destructive sprawl development.Prior to this role, Amanda oversaw Resilient by Design—a highly renowned design challenge that saw local communities partner with design professionals and other stakeholders—in search of innovative ways to strengthen the Bay Area’s resilience in the face of increasing sea level rise.
