ABOUT AMANDA WOODS
As a child, the future engineer in me loved to play with Lincoln Logs while dreaming about making what I designed come to life. That dream later became a reality after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Central Florida. When I began my career at DRMP more than 26 years ago in the firm’s Structural Engineering Department, I was challenged to come up with design solutions for our structures projects. My first bridge project involved designing a 40-foot bridge in my hometown of Daytona Beach, Fla. A framed photo of that bridge still sits in my office as a reminder of that little girl who once dreamed about making my Lincoln Log designs come to life. As time went on and with increased opportunities at DRMP, leadership entrusted me with leading some of the most exciting and complex structural and roadway engineering projects in Central Florida. Now, as DRMP’s Transportation Director, it is an honor to lead a growing team of talented professionals. These professionals have even greater opportunities to design projects that are improving the landscape of Central Florida and beyond while supporting DRMP’s success. I believe everyone on a team has something to bring to the table that helps push a project to its fullest potential. Emerging engineers who are exploring their interests and gaining expertise have a chance to be trained by established engineers. In turn, established engineers are learning about the latest design applications from our younger staff. Mentorship and collaboration are at the center of what made me, DRMP, and our team successful. This not only adds value to our clients’ projects but creates a dynamic team that supports everyone’s professional growth. At the end of the day, for me, it’s about building a fulfilled, challenged, and accomplished team that experiences the pride of knowing they are designing changes to better our transportation networks and our communities.
