Amanda Rice is the Founder and CEO of The Chick Mission, a U.S. based non-profit organization fiercely dedicated to providing women battling cancer with access to fertility preservation ahead of life-saving treatment. The idea for The Chick Mission “hatched” when Amanda’s own fertility preservation coverage was denied by her insurance company. Staring down a long road of chemo, radiation, and long-term drug therapy, Amanda understood the high likelihood of infertility after her treatment and decided to move forward covering the costs on her own. But, the idea of other patients choosing not to pursue preservation or selecting a less aggressive form of treatment to try to maintain their fertility simply because of the cost barrier did not sit well with her…Amanda used the hours waiting for doctor’s appointments and chemotherapy sessions to create The Chick Mission, which has since gone on to cover the cost of fertility preservation for over 500 women newly diagnosed with cancer in the past 6 years and simultaneously helped save patients and their families millions of dollars. While continuing to help women when they need it most, Amanda and her team champion wide-reaching education and advocacy efforts, from corporate and collegiate educational panels to state-wide legislative campaigns that mandate insurance coverage of fertility preservation. One day, these combined efforts will put The Chick Mission out of business and change the women’s healthcare landscape for the better, permanently.
