ABOUT AMANDA BETTS
A passionate reader since childhood, I am an executive editor at Simon & Schuster Canada with a focus on narrative non-fiction and select literary fiction. I seek out literary memoirs, particularly those offering insights on nature, social issues, medical experiences, and marginalized perspectives, and research-led practical non-fiction. Areas of interest include psychology, history, science, and investigative reportage. I love literary fiction with genre elements; propulsive plots combined with strong writing and deep characterization; a distinctive voice and sense of place. In 2016, I was awarded a spot in the Frankfurt Fellowship Programme, an intensive training and networking programme conducted annually by the Frankfurt Book Fair. I have participated on panels about editing and publishing for the Canadian Authors Association; the Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD); the Whistler Writers Festival; and AugurCon, a celebration of Canadian speculative literature. I have proven instincts for influential non-fiction ideas, am a strategic and effective pitcher, and an empathetic and skillful negotiator. I am committed to developing strong, supportive author relationships rooted in a collaborative editorial process. On a personal note, I\'m a devoted dog guardian to Cece, a student and teacher of yoga (YTT certified), and a competent baker.
