As a senior machine learning engineer at ACV Auctions, my responsibilities can be broadly classified into three categories:1. Data Science: probe data and models. Run experiments to test hypotheses and build models. Engineering: setting up automated model training pipelines. These go from data processing -> feature generation -> model training. Project leadership: setting project tasks and mentoring junior engineers.Technical proficiencies:1. Programming languages: Python, C++.2. Libraries/frameworks: pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch.3. Other: BigQuery, Docker, git, Jenkins, Kubeflow.My biggest strength is my ability to teach myself almost anything. While working as a software test engineer, I taught myself quantum mechanics, applied to graduate school, and worked on research problems in two different areas:1. Physics: numerical estimation of ground states of many body quantum systems. Primarily involved restricted Boltzmann machines (RBMs), numerical linear algebra, and high performance computing (HPC).2. Electrical engineering: anomaly detection in smart grids. Primarily involved gaussian processes.
