About Amalia Thomas

As a recent graduate of the master\'s program in Emergency Management and Homeland Security (EMHS) from Arizona State University (ASU), I have gained valuable knowledge and skills in disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. I have also completed multiple certifications from FEMA, such as Public Information Officer certification, Introduction to the Incident Command System, and Fundamentals of Emergency Management.I also have a bachelor\'s degree in Strategic Communications (with Emphasis in Public Relations) from North Dakota State University (NDSU). During my time at NDSU, I was able to cultivate and grow my public speaking, storytelling, crisis communications, writing, social media management, and digital marketing skills. I also was heavily involved with Student Organizations such as Student Government, Residence Life, and Blue Key National Honor Society. This involvement allowed me opportunities to learn how to be a good leader, an effective team player, an organized and professional, and more.I have internship experience in both the fields of Communication and Emergency Management that have helped to cultivate and combine my passions in both fields. I have worked most recently as a Digital Media and Communications Intern for Pacific Disaster Center Global, but have had internships with U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer\'s Fargo Office, and City of Bismarck Emergency Management as well.My goal is to pursue a career in either Communications or Emergency Management and Homeland Security, where I can leverage my education, experience, and skills to make a positive difference in the lives of people and the communities i serve. I am passionate about learning new things, collaborating with diverse teams, and solving complex problems. I am eager to join an organization that shares my values and vision, and that offers opportunities for growth and development.
