About Amala Babu Thomas
I am Amala Babu Thomas, studying for Environmental Engineering, University of Toledo, Ohio, USA. My intermediate study was at St.Xavier’s College, Mumbai, India and my High school studies were at Abu Dhabi, UAE. I strongly believe accruing knowledge and skills are something one can achieve by perusing avenues in addition to classrooms/textbooks. Thus, throughout school days, I was an active participant in social, cultural and sports events; participating in Olympiads, Quizzes, Elocution, Mono-Act, Dance performance, swimming and badminton. As a huge cultural enthusiast person, I never left any opportunity to learn and experience different cultures, especially through different dance forms. I started learning Bharatanatyam at the age of three. I also self-learn many traditional dance forms of India Like Margamkali, Thiruvathira, Folk Dance etc. Quality Leadership intrigued me for a long time. I wanted myself to be educated on how to be a good leader. Holding positions of Assistant Captain or being Vice President of my school, taught me virtues, responsibilities of a leader much more than I could imagine. Opportunities to Interview leaders or professionals for my Youtube channel and raising questions to Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament at Dubai on then current social and political scenario has helped me to nurture this quality. I firmly believe that similar attempts could guide me in my future endeavors. Growing up surrounded by varied flora and fauna of my home state Kerala and vastly different environment of Gulf, helped to understand the diversity of ecosystem. This encouraged me to learn more about the Environment we live-in. In school eco-club, I could participate in nature study competitions and sample environment audits. I have always been a curious student and looking for opportunities to update myself. I made use of Pandemic restrictions and lockdown as an opportunity to update my knowledge using internet platforms-attending online courses from various universities like Harvard, GeorgiaTech or in training programs by the UN. Needless to mention, being a resident of UAE for over 7 years where expats from almost all countries live, I could interact with people from many nationalities, understand their culture, art and lifestyle. As a student I have got a long journey ahead and I hope to utilize this platform to learn from my contacts and share my views on various causes that I support and feel for.
