ABOUT ALYZEA MERCHANT

At LaSalle College Vancouver, my role as Student Experience Coordinator involves spearheading initiatives that foster student success, personal development, and a sense of belonging. I lead a wide range of events, manage student workers, and oversee the creation of student clubs, with a focus on wellness and engagement. Collaborating with the Strategic Enrolment Committee, we’ve implemented programs such as peer tutoring and academic advising to enhance student retention and perseverance.In addition to my core responsibilities, I utilize tools like Slack, Asana, and Power Apps to streamline communication and event planning, standardizing processes through Lean methodology as part of the Six Sigma Project Management Committee. These efforts have significantly improved efficiency and engagement in student services.My academic journey culminated in a BA and BSc Honours in Liberal Studies from Quest University Canada, with a focus on mental health and well-being. I served as Vice-President of the Quest University Students\' Association (QUSA), where I gained valuable financial advising and leadership experience.Beyond LaSalle, I hold leadership roles that reflect my dedication to community and professional development. As President of the LaSalle College Vancouver Toastmasters Club, I foster an environment that encourages leadership growth and public speaking skills. In my role as Co-Chair of the CACUSS Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Community of Practice, I work with colleagues across Canada to address equity-related issues in post-secondary education, creating more inclusive learning environments.I am also committed to community service through my volunteer role with the Aga Khan Economic Planning Board, where I provide career readiness support to Afghan refugees and newcomers, helping them with resume building, interview coaching, and job search strategies. My experience as a Crisis Responder with Kids Help Phone has deepened my empathetic listening and crisis intervention skills, allowing me to support individuals in high-stress situations effectively.With a strong foundation in event coordination, student services, leadership, and career development, I am dedicated to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion while empowering others to achieve success in their personal and academic journeys.
