ABOUT ALYSSA LOGIE
My research focuses on how violent pasts in the context of genocide and state violence are remembered (or not) across cultures. More specifically, I study “disobedient memory”—community and survivor-driven efforts to challenge state-sponsored histories. I focus on the role of art and creativity in bearing witness to trauma and challenging authoritarianism. Past and present research projects have focused on the Holocaust, Palestine, Canada\'s Indian Residential Schools, and cultural memory in Hiroshima, Japan. I am a member of the International Association of Genocide Scholars and the Memory Studies Association. I am passionate about student-centred, intercultural higher education. Being an empathetic educator who inspires students to think critically and creatively is a life-long goal of mine. I am known by my students for my welcoming, interactive, and thought-provoking classrooms. I hold an M.A. in Media Studies and an Honors B.A. in Media, Information, and Technoculture and a Minor in Cinema Studies from Western University. I have completed Ph.D-level Communication Studies and Art History courses at Concordia University and McGill University.
