About Alyssa Frezza

Dr. Alyssa Frezza is a higher education leader focused on student persistence and success. Specifically, she has provided academic advisement of student athletes, pre-college students, and mid-career professionals. Since graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 2011, she has earned three additional degrees, most notably, her doctorate in Educational Leadership degree from Johnson and Wales University. Her dissertation research focused on how academic advisors perceived the academic advising process for college athletes and provided strategic recommendations to support leaders within the academy.Dr. Frezza currently works at Bristol Community College as an Academic Coordinator for College Athletics. She has served as an academic advisor for a cross section of students including, but not limited to first year students, student athletes, at-risk students, veterans, students on academic probation or warning, and those readmitted to the institution. Dr. Frezza has worked at private institutions as well, including the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University, where she served as Executive Coordinator in the School of Professional Studies. In this role, she supported the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives / Dean of the School of Professional Studies through strategic initiatives, event planning, and human and resource management.Dr. Frezza is also a Graduate School Adjunct Faculty Member at Providence College, specializing in Student Development Theory. Additionally, she is also an Adjunct Faculty Member at Bristol Community College.She is an active member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), serving in a leadership capacity on the RI NACADA Steering Committee and presenting her research at both regional and national conferences. In addition, she also is a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).Dr. Frezza is actively seeking her next leadership opportunity in higher education, where she can directly impact student success, retention, and persistence efforts as an engaged scholar-practitioner.
