ABOUT ALYSIA RISSLING

In grade 5 I set a goal of getting an athletic scholarship to pay for my university education. In grade 12 I was offered scholarships in 4 different sports to various Canadian and American institutions. After 5 years of playing basketball at the University of Alberta, I graduated with a bachelors degree. In 2012, I decided to give the sport of bobsled a try while I figured out my next career move. Fast forward only 5.5 years, I got to compete for Canada in the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. In 2015 I got to make history and became the first woman to ever pilot a 4-man bobsled with a crew of all-women in an international race. To this day I remain one of the only people in the World that has piloted all 3 types of bobsleds (monobob, 2-man, and 4-man). In the last 4 years of this Olympic cycle I missed season from an injury, followed by a global pandemic, resulting in narrowly missing the opportunity to return to Beijing 2022 and am now starting my career as the director of partnerships for the Canadian Hockey League. Being an athlete has not only offered me so many life experiences and opportunities, it has also helped me develop the skills of networking, running a business, marketing and building a brand, how to be a team player while remaining independently motivated, time management, and many, many others. Did you know that 94% of women in C-suite rolls come from a sport background? This is why I have dedicated my time to becoming a positive role model and have volunteered with many charities that revolve around kids (particularly girls) and sport. I\'ve created and coach a Vison Board workshop and help people to create a clear path to their future goals by identifying the short term wins to help them get there.(Reach out if you\'d like more information!) The best lesson I\'ve ever learned was from decathlete Ashton Eaton- and that is I never lose. Every goal I don\'t achieve offers a unique learning opportunity that requires acknowledgment and reflection. I either WIN or I LEARN.
