I am enthusiastic about two things: 1. Building things that matter 2. Finding the best people to build them with What things matter enough to build? Better Communications. Real breakthroughs in communications enable breakthroughs in everything else. I built my career by defying the conventional wisdom about what can and cannot be done in the field of communications. I started out as a stubborn entrepreneur doing “the impossible” to enable international connections that others said could not be made quickly, economically, or consistently. With the right partners and a steadfast refusal to quit, I built a communications company that mastered T-1, D2-3, Frame Relay, VoIP and other network hardware and architecture, and we delivered. In subsequent years, I spent considerable time in engineering roles at Cisco Systems, Charter Fiber Optics, CLEC Birch Telecom, and at a few innovative startups. I learned how to spot the unconventional tinkerer who could figure out what everyone else missed. I learned to see what they saw, and to pair that person with the support, resources, and encouragement to keep making small steps toward a huge accomplishment. It did not always work, but we always learned at a faster rate than anyone around us and the benefit of doing so compounded. And when it did work, we saw improvements in “feeds and speeds” manifest as real-world improvements in the lives of users and as exceptional profits for the investors who put their faith in me and my team. When I joined the mature telecommunications home services provider Multiband as Vice President, I faced a new set of challenges: Optimizing operations to deliver on the promise of the engineering that had already been done. Over a few short years, I was promoted to Executive Vice President responsible for employees and driving margins from 3% to 20% through a transformation that delivered excellence in operations, industry recognition, and awards. I was instrumental in building enterprise value before Multiband was sold to Goodman Networks. In 2017, I saw a breakthrough that eclipses all others I have witnessed in my career: Terawave. And I had to be a part of it. Terawave delivers unprecedented spectral efficiency and covertness that will transform and improve every facet of telecommunications. It has been my honor to lead this company from its infancy, and I am awed by where we are taking it next.
