ABOUT ALVARO LUNA
I am a master level mental health clinician, with experience in several areas of clinical practice, including treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, trauma, panic, social anxiety, interpersonal issues, anger management, among others. I work with diverse populations, including, but not limited to, LGBTQ2S+, immigrants, People of Colour (POC), Latin American communities.I have sound training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)(emotional processing procedures, cognitive restructuring, exposure therapy) and related theoretical approaches and practices including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)(emotion regulation, mindfulness), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)(radical acceptance, thought defusion, among others). I incorporate a bio-psycho-social perspective in my practice and integrate systemic notions, social issues and responsibility into my theoretical views (G.E. social justice, oppression issues like racism, heterosexism, ableism, among others) to comprehend the social forces and inter-sectionalitites that affect our lives.I am currently working in the Calgary area at a clinical level in mental health provision; as well as operating my own private practice.Registration/Licensing- Canada: Canadian Certified Counsellor (C.C.C.)- Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA)- Republic of Colombia: Registered Psychologist - Colombian College of Psychologists (CCP)
