About Altaf Lal

Altaf is President of Global Health and Pharmaceuticals Consulting Inc. He is a graduate (with Honors) from Kashmir University. He did his postgraduate degree in Biochemistry from Lucknow University. He received his PhD in Chemistry from Kanpur University for work he did at the Central Drug Research Institute in Lucknow, India. He provides consulting and advisory services to for-profit and not-for-profit entities on health sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, product development, regulations, and disease control and eliminations. He is also owner of multiple family real estate businesses in Atlanta. He is married to Dr. Renu Lal, and they have adult 3 children and 3 grandchildren. They have lived in Atlanta for more than 30 years. He has close to 40 years of experience in health sciences and public health and has closely worked with academia, industry, government institutions, and not-for profit organizations. He has worked at the US National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration, and the Department of Health and Human Services. He served as the US Health Attaché and HHS Regional Representative for South Asia at the US Embassy in New Delhi from 20••••10. He subsequently served as the founding CEO of Hilleman Laboratories, which was established to develop low-cost vaccines. He also served as the Director of FDA India Office, where he was responsible for establishing policies for conducting inspections of food and drugs imported into the United States. He has experience in initiatng and supervising multi-disciplinary programs through program planning, review cycles and financial and management control measures and building bilateral and multilateral partnerships, which has led to significant growth and collaborations at academic, institutional, industry and government levels. He is recipient of FDA Commissioner’s Special Citation Award, Unit Citation Award, U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, National Oceanic Service, James H. Nakano Citation, National Center for Infectious Disease (NICD), CDC & Outstanding Scientific Contribution to Public Health Award. Dr. Lal has published over 240 scientific papers and book chapters.
