Supported the client in modernising their legacy systemTech Stack: Java 6/8, Spring Boot, Oracle DB, JSON, XML, Git, JUnit, Mockito, WireMockTools: Eclipse (STS), SQL Developer, JBoss, GitLab, SonarQube, Swagger• Initially worked within a backend engineering team of five: – Designed and documented RESTful APIs using Swagger to integrate Spring Boot microservices with a legacy Java monolith, significantly improving system performance and reducing downtime. – Enhanced Spring Security to implement secure authentication flows and enable seamless single sign-on, whilst utilising Spring Boot Actuator for application monitoring and management. – Ensured robust software quality through comprehensive unit and integration testing, verified with SonarQube metrics.• Transitioned to one of three backend engineers: – Expanded responsibilities across both microservices and monolithic applications, mentoring two junior developers (one frontend developer transitioning to backend, and one backend developer). – Took ownership of critical non-functional auditing enhancements, significantly improving legacy processes and ensuring compliance and transparency. – Led sprint demos to clearly present deliverables and effectively align stakeholder expectations.• Progressed to sole backend engineer for the legacy monolithic application: – Led PI planning sessions with the product owner and test manager, defining scope and supporting sprint delivery. – Managed database schemas, initially creating tables for specific project requirements, progressing to modifying schemas utilised by multiple projects. – Implemented features using feature flags, enabling safe, controlled deployments with minimal risk.
