ABOUT ALCIDES PINTO SIMÃO

PhD in Molecular Spectroscopy with extensive knowledge in Molecular Spectroscopy and Molecular Modeling. My main scientific interests are focused on bioactive molecules, presently neuromodulators/transmitters such as trace amines (TA\'s). In the past, I was focused on organophosphorus compounds (mainly chemical weapons simulants) and their chemical-physical behaviors. For such, I\'ve used experimental techniques such as spectroscopic techniques such as matrix-isolation infrared spectroscopy and Fourier-transform microwave spectroscopy, as well as quantum chemistry methodologies - carried out in Beowulf-class clusters that I\'ve built from scratch. Along with knowledge, a quality that I\'ve tried to dearly accumulate is experience. I\'ve had several opportunities to travel and develop research abroad for extended periods of time, where I\'ve not only learned new techniques and developed strong professional bonds but also managed to delve into different cultures and make good, solid friendships, both inside and outside the professional realm. These provided me with a great insight into the best work practices that I could bring to my own professional life and apply to it to maximize my efforts and results. If the need arises, I am able to design and build - I am confortable in a mechanic workshop, due to my family background - what I need to advance my ongoing work. Moreover, two of my hobbies - electronics and drawing - granted me skills that proved to be a great support in my career. Apart from these, photography, hiking and visiting museums are other examples of my hobbies.
