About Alonso A.
I am a PhD in environmental engineering and my expertise spans energy and environmental justice, climate mitigation and adaptation with a focus on energy systems, partnerships, sustainability policy analysis and science communication. I have over ten years of experience researching energy systems and implementing sustainable solutions for rural communities in Latin America. I have led projects and established partnerships with community leaders, local and national governments, NGOs, academia and international organizations to develop novel policy approaches to advance social and environmental justice. I am passionate about ensuring sustainable energy transitions for the benefit of humans and the environment.

Examining the discrepancy between official electricity access metrics and the perceptions and realities of electricity access in rural communities in Guatemala. • Analyzing characteristics of electricity service, such as quality, availability, predictability, and affordability, in three communities in western Guatemala and the impact of their unfulfilled electricity needs. This research highlights the limitations of current electricity access policies, and inform policymakers on how to include rural communities experience to achieve a just energy transition.
