ABOUT ALÖNA ROITERSHTEIN
Hello there! I am Alöna (pronounced Alyona)- an experienced project manager and a researcher, with newly-acquired PhD in social sciences. My expertise lies in sustainable tourism development in small rural and island destinations, with strategic planning being the foundation for such development.I am now working on a number of exciting projects, spanning themes of heritage, storytelling, tourism, museums and rural and island communities. My research takes me around Scotland, and further to our Nordic and Arctic neighbours. I am also working on expanding my research and teaching in the subject of tourism and sustainable destination development. I am interested in rural and island tourism, cold-water destinations and tourism in the North. I see the world as a pragmatic interpretivist, and believe that the reality is subjective, and that understanding the layers of context of a particular development is vital for its sustainability.
