ABOUT NICOLA GARAU

Hi! My name is Nicola. I completed my Bachelor\'s Computer Science at the University of Cagliari on July 21 2016. During the same time, I was an intern at the National Center for Computer Animation (NCCA), Bournemouth University (UK), where I wrote my thesis on an automatic sketch-based character animation pipeline. I have some experience in HCI, natural language processing and sentiment analysis thanks to the knowledge acquired while working at Athlos s.r.l. in Cagliari. I completed my Master\'s in Data Science in Trento on October 10 2018. My Master\'s thesis was about simulating pedestrian crowds using LSTM networks. Meanwhile, I gained some working experience as a Computer Vision engineer while working for Xtensa S.r.l, developing an automatic tactical camera for A and B league Italian soccer teams. In 2022, I got my PhD degree in Computer Vision University of Trento, with 10+ papers and journals, including two oral presentations on the biggest international conferences (CVPR and ICCV). My PhD thesis focused on designing novel neural network architectures that mimic how our brain works, in particular tackling the problem of human pose estimation. I have been an intern at Epic Games (Pittsburgh, PA), working on human pose estimation. Currently, I\'m an assistant professor at the University of Trento, doing research on vision, graphics and learning.
