ABOUT ALMIN SURANI

We all believe in making the world a better place. My way is using technology to accelerate and increase the impact nonprofits have with their mission. As the Global Nonprofit Digital Transformation Lead at Avanade, I amplify my experiences to advise nonprofits around the world to transform the way they raise funds, engage supporters, run operations and ultimately realise their mission. Digital transformation is more than just technology, it transforms people and processes to enable the optimal use of technology. It is what Avanade does proudly every day with nonprofits. We do what matters! It all started in 2006 when I first started to work at the Canadian Red Cross (CRC). I thought I would stay for a couple of years to “give back” and then go back to the tech sector. Soon I found that I was at a place and sector that was aligned with my values and truly related to all the people. I was able to use my skills to make a difference in the world. I had found my home. During my 12 years at CRC my duties ranged from quality management & planning to strategy to being the CIO – where I spent over 10 years. During that time, we had implemented many transformations including unified communications, cloud migrations, merger integration, beneficiary registration and ERP to name a few. I learned a lot about people, processes, technology and most of all me. From these implementations, I know what to do and, more importantly, what not to do and having a more fulfilling and good time while doing it. Based in Toronto, you would find me enjoying my time with my wife, Charlene, where we like travelling, reading, and doing photography. Let me leave you with a quote from famed street photographer Joel Meyerowitz – “And that is what photography does: it tears a little piece of time out of the whole flow of time and that piece is associated just with you. It is an incredible medium for reflecting the power of ideas and observations.”
