ABOUT ALLY APLIN
A marine ecologist and educator with research and outreach experience across diverse ecosystems including coral reefs, kelp forests, and estuaries. My career has involved a wide range of fieldwork activities including underwater experiments on SCUBA, tide pool surveys, eDNA studies, and deep-sea research cruises. Beyond fieldwork, I bring a strong background in data processing and analysis, utilizing geospatial tools to uncover insights crucial for marine conservation efforts. I have created curriculum for and led marine science education in classrooms, outdoors, underwater and abroad. I am particularly passionate about integrating ecological research with social dynamics, including considering equity in marine protected area planning, interviewing fishermen and collaborating with communities to promote sustainable fisheries practices. My goal is to advance marine conservation through innovative approaches that benefit both ocean ecosystems and coastal communities.
