About Allison Tate

As a third-year student at the University of Michigan, I am pursuing a B.A. in Public Policy at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, with minors in International Security, Norms, and Cooperation (LSA) and Community Action and Social Change (SSW).My academic and professional focus,\'Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Peace Conciliation Policy,\' examines how societies rebuild trust, institutions, and justice following political violence—and how international and domestic actors navigate reconciliation, accountability, and governance in fragile states. Through an interdisciplinary lens bridging human rights practice, diplomacy, and social justice, I aim to challenge Western-centric paradigms in foreign policy and advocate for inclusive, locally informed approaches to peacebuilding and recovery.Over the past two summers, I’ve had the opportunity to support international human rights and policy work across two continents. In Summer 2025, I held a joint internship placement in Cape Town, South Africa, as a Public Policy and Research Intern with the End GBVF Collective and a Policy Localization and Institutional Accountability Intern with MOSAIC Training, Services, and Healing Centre. In these roles, I contributed to the implementation and local adaptation of South Africa’s 10-Year National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (NSP GBVF) by conducting performance and budget analyses, engaging in monitoring and evaluation with frontline stakeholders, and participating in high-level planning sessions to strengthen intergovernmental alignment and accountability.In Summer 2024, I served as the Donia Human Rights Center Fellow for the University of Michigan. Through this fellowship, I collaborated with The Social Change Initiative, a nonprofit in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where I researched human rights in post-conflict societies, focusing on contemporary cases in Northern Ireland’s courts. My work culminated in the international publication of my paper, “Human Rights and Equality in Northern Ireland: Article 2 of the Windsor Framework Reaches the Courts—What’s at Stake?”I am eager to apply my skills and experiences in roles—both governmental and non-governmental—that advance international cooperation, equity, and justice.    University Of Michigan Central Student Government

   Aug 2025 — Present

   Serve as one of nine Justices on the Central Student Judiciary—the judicial branch and court of last resort within the University of Michigan’s student government—hearing over 100 cases annually on election disputes, constitutional issues, and student organization accountability. Interpret the All-Campus Constitution and Compiled Code, issue advisory opinions, and uphold fairness and due process in all student governance matters.
