Board of Directors @Communities In Schools of Houston

View department →

I’ve proudly served on the Board of Directors for Communities In Schools of Houston (CIS) since 2010, supporting one of the region’s most impactful youth-serving organizations. CIS places dedicated staff on school campuses to surround students with a community of support—empowering them to stay in school and succeed in life.As Chair of the Advocacy Committee, I lead the development of strategies and tools that strengthen the connection between CIS’s campus-based work and the elected officials whose policy decisions impact students and schools.Key Contributions:Designed custom dashboards and mapping tools that align CIS school campuses with state and local political districts, enabling targeted, data-informed advocacy.Developed outreach frameworks to help board members and staff engage effectively with Texas legislators, local officials, and school board members, ensuring CIS is recognized as a critical resource in public education.Spearheaded training and messaging initiatives to help school-based staff communicate the impact of CIS programming in the language of policy and public investment.Work closely with the CIS leadership team and policy partners to identify legislative opportunities, track education-related bills, and amplify the voices of students and site coordinators. This work builds bridges between direct student support and systems-level change, ensuring that decision-makers understand and invest in what works.

ABOUT ALLISON GOWER

I build clarity in complex environments—helping mission-driven organizations understand the civic systems, community dynamics, and strategic opportunities that shape their work. As a Partner at Bird’s Eye Impact, I translate research, stakeholder insight, and layered civic context into clear narratives and actionable strategy. My focus is on helping leaders see the full landscape around them, align their mission with community realities, and communicate their value with confidence. My career spans multiple sectors, beginning in brand management at Sara Lee Corporation, SmithKline Beecham, and BASF, where I led national product strategies, packaging innovation, and cross-functional market initiatives. I later founded The Platform Group Gallery, a promotional packaging manufacturer known for eco-friendly materials, sophisticated printing, and creative design for consumer and luxury brands. Across all roles, I have built a reputation for clear thinking, strong communication, and an ability to distill complexity into practical, compelling solutions. In the civic and nonprofit arena, I have served in communications and advocacy roles on boards including Communities In Schools of Houston, the League of Women Voters of Houston and Texas, Houston Boychoir, and Pink Ribbons Project. This work deepened my commitment to improving community awareness, strengthening mission alignment, and elevating the stories of organizations that create meaningful change.I bring a multidisciplinary perspective—brand strategy, systems thinking, community insight, and narrative development—to every engagement. My goal is simple: help organizations see further, connect smarter, and move forward with clarity.
