About Allison Horiuchi
My name is Allison Horiuchi, and I am a third year student at Northeastern University. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Psychology, as well as a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. My academic journey is driven by a passion for understanding the intersection of mental health and the justice system. I am particularly interested in improving access to mental healthcare within marginalized communities. In addition to my studies, I am actively involved in campus organizations, including the Criminal Justice Student Advisory Council, on which I am the acting secretary. Additionally, I am serving as the Director of Public Relations for the Half Asian People\'s Association, and I am a member of PsyClub.I was able to study abroad in Prague as part of Northeastern\'s N.U.In program, which expanded my global perspective and enhanced my leadership skills as Assistant Director of the Community Council. I also participated in a month-long study abroad opportunity in Tokyo, Japan through Northeastern\'s Dialogue of Civilizations program. In Tokyo, I explored intensive, travelogue writing with a small cohort of peers and faculty.Through my work with Monte Nido Walden, I have gained invaluable experience in supporting adolescent and adult residents. As a mental health counselor in a residential treatment setting, I provide compassionate care focused on DBT, CBT, and relapse prevention skills. In working closely with clinical teams, facilitating group therapy sessions, and assisting residents in meals, transitions, and exposures, I have enhanced my commitment to aiding individuals in the recovery process. Moreover, I have developed skills in customer service, communication, and team collaboration through my work experience at Tokyo Premium Bakery and Gelato Boy in Denver. My ability to engage with customers and build relationships was key in ensuring their satisfaction and enhancing their overall experience.I am eager to connect with professionals and organizations in the fields of criminal justice and psychology to learn, grow, and make a positive impact on the system. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested in discussing opportunities for collaboration or sharing insights into these fields!
