Allen’s success as an architect and a leader in the field is rooted in his passion and integrity; he believes reputation is paramount. He credits an interest in understanding the head and heart of a client as a key factor in being awarded their business. Decades of repeat business from developer and institutional clients are largely credited to respecting and interpreting the client’s goals and vision, balanced by Allen’s commitment to design excellence, as well as being a good steward of the client’s resources in the development of a project.Allen founded NK Architects with his partner, Ray Nadaskay, in 1972. The complementary, disparate skill sets of these two young architects steadily grew the firm into what is today, a leading full-service architectural, interior design, planning and structural engineering firm with offices in New Jersey, New York City and California. A respected firm with a professional staff of over 60, NK is widely recognized as a national market leader in their core markets of healthcare and educational design. In addition to healthcare, Allen has focused his career on multi-family housing and urban redevelopment projects, leveraging his skills in collaboration, communicating ideas, building consensus and ultimately gaining challenging approvals. He is passionate about what the built environment can contribute to the well-being of the individual and the community, and has an equal interest in the natural environment and sustainability. While a veteran architect, Allen’s curiosity for learning continually results in fresh approaches and an extraordinary model of creativity for his staff. Allen is recognized as a leader and friend among his peers. He has served as a trustee and board member for numerous not-for-profit organizations, and frequently speaks at local and regional conferences.
