About Allan Powe
Experienced Science Educator | Former Biotechnology Researcher | PhD in Biological Sciences Bridging the worlds of cutting-edge research and innovative education, I bring 30 years of scientific expertise to my role as a Science Teacher in New York, NY. My journey from biotechnology labs to the classroom reflects my passion for inspiring the next generation of scientists. With a PhD from Rockefeller University and 12 years in biotech, including work on treatments for rare genetic diseases at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, I offer students a unique perspective on the real-world applications of science. In 2017, I transitioned to education, volunteering as a Scientist-in-Residence in NYC public schools and mentoring middle school students in Brooklyn. Now, as a NY State certified teacher in Biology, I leverage my diverse background to create engaging STEM curricula that foster scientific curiosity and critical thinking, first at LION Charter School (formerly Hyde Leadership) and now at Regis High School, connecting textbook concepts to their impacts on our society and culture. My mission is to inspire students to explore the wonders of science, preparing them for future careers in STEM fields. I\'m always eager to connect with fellow educators, researchers, and STEM advocates to share ideas and collaborate on initiatives that advance science education.
