About Alix Zacharias

Using a strategic and hands-on approach, I consult and coach small businesses, teams and individuals, helping them rethink, develop and build sustainable systems and processes. My past experience includes leading and managing business operations, finances, talent development, employee engagement, project management, and client/guest experience. I am also a Certified Coach, focusing on individual and professional development, both in and out of the workplace.My story.I started in boutique hospitality management, driven by a passion for experiences and people. After working in restaurants and hotels, I found I craved more structure, so I moved into project management and leadership coordination, first working with the Director at The Eric Carle Museum and then with the Partners and Location Directors at IDEO-NY. During my time at IDEO, I leveraged my previous hospitality experience and incorporated those principles into developing better internal systems and processes to bridge some of the operational gaps between the client and support teams. I took my learnings and joined Undercurrent as the Director of People Operations, where I led recruiting, HR and development, client experience and office management. While at Undercurrent, I revamped and consolidated the operational systems, processes and experiences, which enabled a smooth transition when it was acquired by Quirky. In a moment of career uncertainty, I took a big leap and embraced the opportunity to cofound the consulting firm, August Public Inc. As the only operationally focused founder, I developed, built, and managed all internal operations including legal, financial, talent (recruiting and development), HR, and business administration, both at the local and global level, all whilst navigating the unique self-governing structure of August. After many years, it became clear to me that one of my skills as a small business founder was my ability to see the big picture, while understanding all the steps it can take to get there.
