ABOUT ALISTAIR NEWTON

A professional, practical, hands-on, and passionate consultant who has actually done the jobs he advises on in the waste management and environmental sectors. With a two-decade, proven track record in solid and liquid waste management covering hazardous, non-hazardous, organic, and inert materials and processes, Alistair has proven himself to be an asset to many waste management operators and suppliers across the world. His broad experience with solid, mixed municipal, source-segregated, and comingled wastes has enabled operators to improve their approach to waste management, introduce and apply new technologies and processes and develop new markets with confidence. Alistair is an adept trainer of both experienced and novice waste managers and operators and enjoys working with a willing and motivated team.Market areas of expertise include the production of compost-like output for biomass fuels and land remediation, agricultural-grade composts for food (ABPR-compliant), the production of solid recovered fuels, refuse derived fuels and syngas from anaerobic digestion and/or pyrolysis, and the planning of sanitary and hazardous waste landfills for disposal. Alistair also has considerable experience in the treatment, transport and disposal of medical wastes including teratogenic and radiological materials as well as the TTD of VSL, VLL, LL and IL radioactive isotopes. He has further expertise in the management and operation of construction and operational site-health and safety processes and procedures (RAMS.)In addition to the practical aspects of his work, Alistair is accomplished at cross-border transport of waste legislation and documentation, carbon offset accounting, management, and trading (ROCs), mitigation and adaptation, amongst other aspects of climate-change policies and strategies. Not only does Alistair work in the commercial sector, but he also has a passion for appropriate sustainable development and is committed to supporting rural communities in developing countries both personally and through small NGO’s. One small point of pride is Alistair’s fundraising by completing the “Fan Dance” on Pen Y Fan at the age of 55, for the Cambodian Mines Action Centre. He also supports the HALO Trust and MAG, all of whom are working towards removing ERW which are an ongoing threat in so many rural communities.
