ABOUT ALISTAIR STOOPS

Maths and Physics graduate, currently working as Head of Microsoft AI Solutions at Kainos. I started my career at UCAS as a data scientist, developing automated technical solutions for challenges such as matching students in Clearing to appropriate courses and universities. I also obtained base and advanced programming certification in SAS during this role. My role as an AML and theft analyst involved the use of SQL, R and TIBCO Spotfire to analyse customer behaviour through transactions, and identifying risk to the organisation based on activity that could be indicative of money laundering or theft.Throughout 4 years with Deloitte (consulting), I was primarily focused on delivery and implementation of technical solutions in the public sector across a range of technologies including Open-Source technology (namely PySpark utilising many common packages such as pandas, spark sql etc. as well as some additional experience in networkx), SAS, and SQL Server. While the scope and scale of these solutions has varied, the focus has been in automation of processes, improving data accuracy and quality, and minimising the time clients take to get value from their data. In addition to core coding skills in both open-source and SAS technologies, my project experience included management of small teams, supporting junior resources learning and development, knowledge transfer and handover to BAU resources and project management activities in both waterfall and agile environments.I have continued my career in digital services with Kainos working as part of the Data and AI practice including multiple project deliveries aligned to data analytics, governance, and architecture. This role was in part focused on delivering specific solutions such as SQL + PowerBI analytics and data engineering solutions across Azure and AWS. Key elements of this role included assessing existing environments and capabilities, supporting data strategy development and improvement, discovering key opportunities for utilising data as well as prioritisation and roadmap development, and supporting delivery of data solution project execution & delivery.Since early 2025, I moved into a role as the Head of Microsoft AI Solutions, leading research and development for solutions across Fabric, Foundry, and Copilot and supporting delivery of internal AI products and agentic AI solutions.In addition to the above work experience, some of my interests outside of work include football, snooker, and all things technology.
