ABOUT ALISON MARSHALL

As a successful corporate lawyer working in partnership with SMEs, I have built up extensive experience that benefits individuals and SMEs.I specialise in acquisitions, disposals, succession planning, restructuring, MBOs and a range of other projects. I advise on a variety of intellectual property matters: trade marks and branding, copyright and software, patents and licensing, research and development. My clients appreciate my focus on outcomes and results, often relieved to leave the details and process to me, while they prefer to spend their time running their businesses. They just want a solution to their problem or a successful framework put in place. My typical client is an owner-managed business, perhaps a family business, which is either considering exit strategies or a new venture. Often restructuring to involve key personnel or the next generation in the ownership and management of the business. Sometimes a joint venture to exploit a new piece of technology. Maybe acquiring a complementary business which provides a useful synergy or extends geographical reach. It could be time, after building up a company, to cash in and sell.Sometimes my role is more as an ongoing business adviser than as a traditional solicitor, while other clients prefer to consult me when needed on more formal legal matters. Each approach works well in the right circumstances. As a firm, we focus on SMEs and our services are tailored to what an SME needs. Entrepreneurs spend long hours making a success of their businesses and finding time to consider legal issues and new projects can be difficult. We aim to make the “speaking to the lawyer” experience as painless and friendly as possible. My role is to guide you through whatever minefield you face, whether it is taking you by the hand or just giving you the occasional nudge in the right direction. The best way to get in touch is by calling me on 01•••••••06 or emailing at a•••@wjm.co.uk.
