About Alison Potter
As a compliance professional, regulatory attorney, and change agent with over 20 years’ experience, I have provided strategic advice to payment services, consumer banking, credit card, and technology companies. Whether building new CMS programs or delivering new products to customers and end-users, I am passionate about collaborating with business and technology partners to find efficient, data-driven solutions that drive a seamless and compliant customer experience. In my most recent role designing Discover’s UDAAP Compliance program, I built a team of attorneys and compliance professionals that launched new data metrics, committee reporting, monitoring, risk assessment, and automation, while advising and enabling our business to bring compliant digital wallets, rewards, offers, and new credit and deposit products and services to market. I also oversaw the rollout of Compliance oversight models for artificial intelligence and for the programs and systems driving compliance with advertising claims and servicing promises, reducing the resources needed from business and Legal stakeholders. In prior roles leading Compliance teams responsible for Discover’s lending products and as Director and Senior Counsel in Discover’s Law Department, I advised leaders and project teams for closed- and open-end lending in connection with digital marketing, servicing, collections, payments, policies and procedures, fraud investigations, complaints, systems development and migration, change management, vendor oversight, account terms and conditions, disclosures, and overall regulatory compliance. I also provided strategic advice within investigations and inquiries, and launched programs to reduce outside counsel spend and litigation risk from loss of privilege. As a Senior Associate at Sidley Austin, I represented entities and officers in financial services, technology, and health care industries in connection with investigations, mediation and litigation before courts and regulators. I also provided strategic advice to clients on navigating changes to law and the regulatory environment through compliant policies and procedures.I have extensive experience advising business leaders and project teams on legal and compliance matters under consumer protection and privacy laws (e.g, UDAAP, FTC Act, FCRA/Reg. V, FDCPA, ECOA/Reg. B, TILA/Reg. Z, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, GLBA, GDPR, CCPA, TSR, MLA, SCRA), payment and mobile commerce laws (E-SIGN, EFTA/Reg. E, NACHA), the FCA, IP/trade secrets law, bankruptcy law, and contract law.
