ABOUT ALIREZA BADAKHSHAN
CURRENT WORK-Research in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells for in-space vehicles MOST RECENT WORK-Research in propulsion risk reduction and green propellants for small-sat and in-space vehicles -Ignition of H2/LOX and RP/O2 in subscale rocket engines by photo-ignition >800 psi, Patent issued Mar. 2017 of acoustically induced combustion instability in test rocket injectors/engines -Design of nano-fuels for control of combustion dynamics/instability in test rocket engines GOAL: Generate ideas and innovative problem solving, lead and execute challenging projects in R&D, proof of concept, in space access technology utilizing photonics, plasmonics, and nano-materials. EXPERIENCES:* A multi-disciplinary science and engineering professional with 30+ years of R&D experience in academia (14 yrs), industry (9 yrs), and government labs (11 yrs), including aerospace, medical devices, telecom, thin film, opto-electronics & semiconductor industries * worked on numerous lab-based projects + 20 years of technical leadership role in interaction of light with nano-materials, nano-biochemical sensors, and optical diagnostic systems * Led numerous projects in system design/development for proof of concept and prototyping CONSULTING: 2008-present as a Sr. Scientist in nanotechnology. Created an ultra-compact photo-ignition system for subscale rocket engines with a focus on high pressure ignition applications. My new patent on a self-contained photo-ignition torch has applications from ignition and relight of thrusters, lean burning turbines to ultra-compact gas generators, and hybrid/wearable airbags. INDUSTRIAL: From as a Research Scientist in industry, provided leadership in R&D and advanced technology development in a wide range of industries including biomed, telecom. ACADEMIC: From as an assistant professor. My work in optical diagnostics resulted in several publications and two issued patents.
