The Celiac Disease Clinic is the only Celiac specific clinic in the Southeast, providing roughly patients coordinated, long term management of their chronic illness. As the Program Manager and Director of Patient and Community outreach, I am responsible for ideation and execution of patient advocacy and support programs as well as external marketing and outreach for the clinic. My overarching goal is to improve diagnosis, expand access to care, elevate patient education, and strengthen community engagement for patients living with celiac disease. ABOUT ALIE BASIL
I am a former Marketing Professional turned Healthcare Director, deeply passionate about improving the lives of people living with chronic disease. Leveraging a marketing background, interdisciplinary healthcare expertise and formal training in social foundations of health, I have been expanding the Celiac Disease program at VUMC since January 2022 with a focus on addressing systemic barriers in disease management, and expanding patient access to care. Under my direction, the clinic has dramatically enhanced patient advocacy, outreach, and programming, resulting in notable increases in patient referrals and overall engagement. These efforts have been instrumental in advancing long-term care for celiac patients. I continue to be involved in ongoing research looking at a variety of social and structural factors effecting patient quality of life and disease management.
