About Alicia O.
Stories shape the problems we solve. I believe that at our core, experience designers are storytellers. We may tell those stories through different mediums—visual systems, research, or in my case, language—but our goal is the same: to create an intuitive narrative that allows users to make informed decisions. I spend a lot of time trying to understand how people think, and why, so I can help them easily navigate the most complex moments of their lives.
Experience
Head of Content Design
Feb 2021 — Present
Currently leads mid-sized org of Content Designers (includes managers and individual contributors).+ Nimbly responds to organizational & business pivots, motivating teams to cut through the noise and create paths forward. Maintained stability through two rounds of layoffs, a new CEO, and the Design org’s decentralization with as minimal disturbance to efficiency and culture possible.+ Cultivates a highly skilled, diverse, and resilient org who continuously delivered work high in quality and business impact. In 18 months, grew Content Design team from 6 to 16; took on Learning Design from April ‘23 - March \'24.+ Built and maintains a culture of focused on craft excellence, business impact, individual growth, inclusivity, and transparency. Sets and revises org expectations, processes, rituals and overall direction. Big wins include implementing JIRA to track workstreams, cultivating a strong feedback cycle leading to higher overall craft quality, and overseeing a Style Guide overhaul to unify 13+ disparate guides across Lyft into one.+ Provides UX leadership and design review in all product spaces. Routinely pushes back on product/design decisions to ship stronger, human-centered experiences. Big wins: leading UX on Women+ Connect and successfully advocating for the most inclusive product possible.+ Developed org-wide career pathways, then developed aligned pathways for Design+; rolled all this knowledge of career ladder work to contribute to Lyft’s general pathway revamp.
