About Alicia Wagner
I am a recent (2025) PhD graduate from the Manetsch Lab at Northeastern University. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Forensic Science from the University of New Haven (2019). During my time at Northeastern University, aside from research, I worked as an organic chemistry laboratory teaching assistant and participated in relevant coursework. Within the Manetsch laboratory, I engaged in hit-to-lead discovery, as well as fragment-based LC-MS/MS techniques for the evolution and identification of potential antimalarial leads. My dissertation work specifically advanced a virtual high-throughput screening hit to a single digit nanomolar potent lead that has been nominated for in vivo effiacy studies. Here I have gained experience that is complementary to my medicinal chemistry skillset, including cheminformatics, molecular docking, bacterial cell culture, and protein expression and purification.During my time at the University of New Haven, I participated in a medicinal chemistry research project, focusing on creating derivatives of the natural product Cadiolide B as a potential antibacterial for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. I was also a recitation teaching assistant for general and organic chemistry and participated in two additional research projects.
