ABOUT ALICE ELIZABETH WILSON

I’m a sustainability researcher and lecturer interested in how people actually live with and push back against systems of constraint: housing markets, patriarchy, environmental limits, institutional power, and stories about what’s possible.My academic work sits at the intersection of sustainability, housing, land use and social justice, with a particular focus on lived experience and unconventional responses to crisis. Alongside teaching and research, I write for public audiences. My journalism and personal essays have appeared in outlets like The Guardian, The Independent, The Metro and HuffPost, and my creative writing (short stories and flash fiction) has been published in over 20 literary magazines and anthologies, with work nominated for prizes including the Pushcart and winning the Sonder Best Small Fiction 2021.Writing isn’t separate from research or teaching. Like Joan Didion, writing for me is how I think carefully and creatively about the world. I care about precision, attention, and honesty on the page, whether that’s in an academic paper, an essay, or a piece of fiction.Alongside my academic role, I also offer private tuition to writers. People come to me because they want to develop their voice, improve their craft, or move between forms (academic, journalistic, creative) with more confidence. I work one-to-one with writers at different stages, from early experimentation to publication-ready work.I’m always happy to connect around research collaborations, teaching, writing, or thoughtful conversations about sustainability, housing, and how we tell better stories about the future.
