My role combines strategic planning with high-output media execution across public health, equality, and third-sector communications.Key responsibilities- Lead the national press office, acting as first point of contact for all media enquiries- Secure high-impact national media coverage across print, digital, and broadcast by developing timely, high-quality media materials including press releases, op-eds, news statements, interviews, and blogs- Source and sensitively develop client case studies, ensuring ethical storytelling and platforming of lived experience in external media- Generate regular national news stories that position the organisation as a thought leader — through horizon scanning, journalist engagement, and campaign tie-ins- Provide strategic media relations support to regional comms teams, developing tailored communications plans across England and Scotland- Manage national and local journalist networks, maintaining detailed media lists and overseeing our media management system (including vendor/contractor oversight)- Develop and deliver media training to frontline and senior staff- Build strong relationships with journalists and influencers- Coordinate crisis communications responses, including business continuity, service incidents, and public health risks — ensuring reputational protection and clarity of message under pressure- Collaborate with policy, campaigns, and digital teams for cohesive messaging- Deliver insight-driven media monitoring and reporting, evaluating coverage performance and benchmarking visibility- Conduct forward planning and media horizon scanning using sector tools to proactively position WithYou in the national media narrative.
