About Ali M. Thomas
Racial health justice requires physician activists. I am a hospital-based internal medicine physician with a mission to change the complexion of health leadership careers. At Kaiser Permanente of Washington I serve as Medical Director the Healthcare Career Pathway Program, and support the growth of the 100% non-profit, BIPOC Health Careers Ecosystem In these roles I partner with racial health justice champions, young and old, to build programs and strategies that recruit Black, Brown and Indigenous students into careers that improve the health of their communities (https://vimeo.com/59•••••16). I\'m honored to be a graduate of Morehouse College, where mentors (Beth Bowen EdD, MD, Bill Jenkins, PhD, and PAUSE Partnerships clinicians), professors and fellow students led me to express my love for science, people, and social justice through medicine and public health. Also forever grateful to Dr. Joan Reede and the Harvard/Commonwealth Fund Fellow in Minority Health Policy where I studied health care systems’ responsibilities to the communities they serve (\"community benefit\"). I am also a member of the Baha’i Faith—my ultimate source of inspiration, and the root of my belief that social transformation is inseparable from moral and spiritual transformation. Lastly, but originally, I\'m the second child of scholar-activists June Manning Thomas (https://junemanningthomas.com/) and Richard Walter Thomas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Walter_Thomas).

Why can\'t Black, Brown, and Indigenous individuals improve the health of their own communities? They are absent from health leadership careers- jobs from public health to pharmacy that require graduate or professional school. HCCP collaborates with racial-justice champions across Washington on strategies that change the complexion of health leadership careers.
