ABOUT ALFRED KIBOWEN

I am a Kenyan national and recent graduate of Amherst College, MA. My undergraduate training is in cellular neuroscience, and working with primary neuron culture has developed my appreciation for cellular mechanisms of disease, especially with regard to psychiatric health. I have an interest in drug addiction neuroscience, and apprenticing in a behavioral neuroscience lab interested in drug misuse has expanded my understanding of the connection between cellular pathways and behavioral outcomes. Additionally, I have a growing interest in science advancement in Kenyan, and the African continent more broadly. A student at Moi High School Kabarak, an alumnus of Strathmore School and a KenSAP scholar, I have witnessed the power of education to transform lives. In the future, I dream of driving science education initiatives, and also building research capacity on the continent. Ultimately, I envision supporting local scientists receive the training and infrastructure to drive research innovation on the continent
