About Alex Reed Aparicio
Hi there! I\'m Alex Reed Aparicio, a recent UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) graduate with a B.Sc. in Biopsychology (June 2024). My passion for science, encompassing biology, psychology, and neuroscience, fueled my journey at UCSB. I\'m also driven to make a positive impact, which I pursued through research and community involvement.My research experience is diverse. I\'ve worked in 5 labs the Miller Memory Lab, the PADRES Lab Szumlinski Lab, the Social Cognitive Development Lab, and the Attention Lab investigating fascinating topics such as human memory, barriers to mental health treatment, addiction mechanisms in rats, child development, and sustained attention. I\'m also proficient in programming languages like Python, R, SQL, JavaScript, and frameworks like Express.js, which allows me to excel in software development and streamline research processes. Additionally, thanks to programs like McNair and SACNAS Scholar, I\'ve honed my skills in translating complex research into clear and engaging presentations.Beyond research, I\'m a strong community advocate. I led the UCSB SACNAS (Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science) chapter, organizing panels and lunches with faculty, medical doctors, and undergraduate researchers, and promoting research opportunities. But most importantly, I focused on empowering underrepresented minorities to pursue careers in STEM fields. As co-treasurer of Comunidad Latinx Graduación (CLG), I ensured a memorable graduation for Latinx students by responsibly managing a significant budget. I\'m also bilingual (Spanish) and have strong customer service skills, which I developed through volunteering in dental offices and assisting patients.Looking ahead, I\'m eager to leverage my research coordination skills, programming expertise, and passion for helping others to make a real difference in my next role.
