He is also an \"idea-preneur\" who comes up with new ideas, builds coalitions to support them, & ensures they become a reality.He has held a variety of positions in the public, nonprofit & private sectors, including:* In the nonprofit sector, he is the co-founder of Catalyze SV & now its Executive Director. He has worked at the national media advocacy organization GLAAD & the Bay Area organization FLY.* In government, he has held positions at the federal, state, & local levels.* In the private sector, he has worked for progressive-minded, communications & public engagement consulting firms including Fenton Communications, Consensus, Inc, & Katz & Associates.* On political campaigns, he has been on the team of a closely contested U.S. Senate race & in the national headquarters of a presidential campaign. As a community advocate & volunteer:* Alex is a Commissioner on the San Jose Housing and Community Development Commission, is an advisory board member of New Leaders Council Silicon Valley chapter, is active in his neighborhood, & volunteers with local nonprofit organizations.* In San Jose, Alex has started & led 2 other initiatives: bringing a now thriving farmer\'s market to the Rose Garden area & getting a prominent street named after Barack Obama.Alex has held roles focused on: public policy, community engagement, grassroots organizing, advocacy, communications, fundraising, public affairs, nonprofit management & business development.
