About Alex Gary
I\'m not sure if I like the word \"seasoned\" because that sounds \"old.\" Still, it fits here. I\'m a seasoned communications professional who spent 23 years in journalism learning to recognize and tell a good story and the past five years in communications helping others tell theirs. In my newspaper days, I served as an education, government, sports and business reporter. I also did a fair share of writing about entertainment. There is no subject that I haven\'t researched and reported. Over the past five years, I\'ve run my own communications company, which allowed me to branch into a number of areas.* Successfully securing more than in grant funds for non-profit organizations.* Served as communications manager for a business development group.* Gotten several clients into regional and national publications.* Launched a podcast and filled the pipeline with national and international guests.* Managed a weekly networking group and built the speaker list of expert presenters out four months in advance.* Maintained websites for several clients at once, which includes creating blog content.* Managed social media, which includes creating short videos to boost engagement.* Assisted clients with business development, including building targeted lists and doing initial sales calls.* Written a commemorative book on baseball history for a community celebration.* Headed communications for community celebrations about the Rockford Peaches that attracted national and international attention.* Currently, I\'m heading up alumni research and development initiatives for public school districts. I\'m working with Harlem School District in Machesney Park, Illinois, Hononegah High School District in Rockton, Illinois, and the Rockford Sports Coalition, which supports the athletics programs of Rockford (Illinois) Public Schools. I\'ve also completed a contract with the School District of Beloit in Wisconsin.
