About Alex Lavaee

Hey there! I\'m Alex, a software engineer @ Microsoft Research. I\'m interested in solving problems in AI/ML infra (ML optimization, distributed systems), AI4Science (scientific discovery), and robotics (world models + perception systems).I completed my data science undergrad @ BU where I was fortunate to work with the late great Prof Margrit Betke at the Image and Video Computing Group on a 3D self-supervised representation learning model for understanding human motion. ‍ During my final year of undergrad I had the opportunity to work with Prof Tomas Kirchhausen @ Harvard Medical School where I conceived and developed, SpatialDINO, a spatial intelligence self-supervised representation learning framework for understanding the molecular and cellular world. 🧬Previously, I worked as a SWE, MLE, and data scientist at Microsoft, Boeing, Edwards Lifesciences (where I developed an FDA processing model for severe aortic stenosis detection @ The Applied Machine Learning Group), and AI startups (including Themis AI, an MIT CSAIL spinoff backed by Prof Daniela Rus), gaining hands-on experience in developing scalable AI products.Feel free to reach out and connect—I look forward to collaborating and sharing ideas!
