Backend Lead — Platform Migration & Architecture (2024–Present)- Architecting the backend for a platform migration from static hosting to containerized microservices on AWS GovCloud (ECS, EC2), decomposing a monolithic dashboard application into independent frontend, API, and database services- Designing the data layer using Amazon RDS and MinIO/S3, with infrastructure patterns built for DoD security requirements and multi-tenant scalability- Evolving the application from a single-purpose dashboard into an extensible app platform, enabling adjacent teams to build and deploy custom analytics dashboards for their own customersFull-Stack Software Engineer (May 2024–Present)- Architected a real-time document search platform using React, TypeScript, and the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), enabling analysts to surface intelligence across large document collections- Built CI/CD pipelines on AWS with Docker and Kubernetes, reducing deployment cycle time and improving release reliability- Hardened Kubernetes clusters (k0s) by implementing STIGs to meet DoD security compliance, achieving audit-ready security posture ahead of assessment deadlinesAI Software Engineer (July 2023–May 2024)- Built prototype data mesh microservices for CDAO, creating reusable data access patterns that enabled multiple defense teams to discover and query shared datasets- Led development of a graph traversal and identity management service (Python/FastAPI, Neo4j) modeling complex entity relationships across disparate datasets- Engineered a vocabulary translation service using NLP with vector embeddings (ChromaDB) and cosine similarity to reconcile conflicting terms across data dictionaries

ABOUT ALEXANDER JONES

I build full-stack platforms, cloud infrastructure, and AI/data applications for defense and energy-sector clients. Currently a Software Engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton, I architect containerized microservices on AWS GovCloud and lead platform development for Department of Defense programs. My path into engineering started in genomics research at NIH, Duke, and UNC — where I wrote analysis pipelines in Python and R for large-scale DNA/RNA sequencing. That research background gave me a first-principles approach to problem-solving that I\'ve carried into every role since: from building NLP classification models at Deloitte, to developing energy simulation APIs at Arcadia, to leading AI and full-stack development for defense clients. What I bring to a team:→ Full-stack delivery: React frontends, Python/FastAPI backends, PostgreSQL/Neo4j/Elasticsearch data layers→ AI/ML application development: NLP pipelines, vector search, text classification→ Cloud & DevOps: AWS (ECS, GovCloud, Lambda), Docker, Kubernetes (including DoD STIG compliance), CI/CD→ Technical leadership: System architecture, agile practices, cross-team coordinationI hold an MS in Computer Science (Interactive Intelligence) from Georgia Tech and a BS in Quantitative Biology from UNC Chapel Hill.Open to senior/lead engineering roles where I can drive impact on complex, data-intensive products. Let\'s connect.
