ABOUT ALEXIS W.

As Executive Director of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus, I am dedicated to advancing economic, educational, and social equity for minority communities across Indiana. In this capacity, I work closely with legislators to drive policy initiatives that create meaningful change. My service on legislative committees and councils has allowed me to contribute to critical discussions on education equity, housing, mental health, and public health policy.I am an active member of the National Black Legislative Staff Leadership Council (NBLSLC), an organization committed to developing and educating African-American legislative staff nationwide. Through my involvement, I support research efforts and policy initiatives that align with the broader mission of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL), ensuring that legislative staff remain equipped with the tools and training necessary to serve their communities effectively. Additionally, I serve on the policy subcommittee of the MACRO-B Coalition, a dedicated group working to reduce opioid overdose deaths in Black communities. Our coalition brings together lawmakers, emergency responders, and community advocates to address the crisis through policy-driven solutions and strategic outreach. With over a decade of experience in public service, education, and healthcare, I excel in communication, relationship-building, and strategic problem-solving. As a Master of Public Affairs graduate, I bring a strong foundation in policy development and legislative strategy. I have been actively involved with nonprofit organizations in various capacities, including consulting, leadership, and facilitation, helping to drive meaningful initiatives and community engagement.Beyond my legislative work, I am deeply committed to leadership development and empowerment. I had the distinct honor of being part of the first-ever A Seat At The Table’s Cohort, an immersive eight-week women’s leadership program designed to equip professionals with the skills and mentorship necessary for career advancement. This experience strengthened my ability to lead with intention and foster spaces where women can thrive in policy and governance.I welcome opportunities to collaborate with organizations committed to public service and community development, striving to build authentic connections and drive lasting impact.
