About Alexis Alex M.

Hello! My very first job was an infantryman (mortarman) for the United States Marine Corps (USMC). I served honorably for 5 years and 6 months, and throughout my time in the Corps, I learned many valuable skills that helped me mature, gain confidence, and learn what it takes to become a leader. The USMC\'s 14 leadership traits and 11 leadership principles conditioned me to earn the rank of Sergeant 3 years into my service. With two successful deployments overseas, I gained a lot of wisdom which made me fit to become an Instructor for two important leadership courses that are known as Corporals Course and Lance Corporal Seminar after my second deployment. I mentored, educated, and counseled roughly 400 Marines through both courses in order for them to grow as small-unit leaders because it is known in the USMC that Noncommissioned Officers (NCO) are the backbone of the Corps! Many unique skills were learned while I was an instructor such as public speaking, mentoring, counseling, communication, teamwork, organization, management, and computational skills. Because of my actions, I was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM).While on active duty, I was driven to soak in more education, so I enrolled myself into college courses through Central Texas College. After ending my active service, I wanted to continue my studies, which is why I enrolled into Estrella Mountain Community College. After graduating with an Associates of Arts, I transferred to Arizona State University in order to continue my studies, all while working part-time security on the weekends, as well as holding down as the noncommissioned officer in charge (NCOIC) for the Arizona National Guard (AZNG) S-2 section. I transferred into the AZNG from the Marine Corps because I wanted to pursue a different craft, which is how I became part of the S-2 (Intel) section. My section produced many quality training products which got us awarded a unique challenge coin personally by our battalion commander! Working in the S-2 has taught me many intelligence analyst skills that tested me differently as a leader. In addition to that, I have been sharpening my leadership traits and principles much more since taking the role of NCOIC due to the compact training events that occur during drill weekends. Balancing fitness, school, work, and military work is not an easy task, but it definitely is possible. Overall, I am very proud of the many lives I have positively touched. I would like to continue that in the computer industry!
