About Alexis Hyde

As part of the class of 2025, I graduated from WashU School of Arts & Sciences with a BA in Political Science and concentration in Political Theory. To understand how the federal use of proprietary artificial intelligence technology might infringe on a person\'s autonomy, my senior thesis capstone project researched whether the 5th Amendment is able to sufficiently limit the government\'s expanded power in criminal proceedings. In addition to my primary field of interest, I also pursued a double minor in French and Global Film/Media Studies. This interdisciplinary academic background steers me to think critically about systems of governance and the emerging technological forces that shape them globally. Over the past four years, I have worked in various legal settings to prepare for my pursuit of the legal profession. Together, my academic and professional experience inspire my interest towards technology law. In particular, I aim to advance ethical discourses on the practice of law when introduced to emerging issues linked to artificial intelligence. My post-graduate plans are centered on attending Marquette Law School in the fall of 2025.

Experience

1. Zoning Code Analyst

   National Zoning Atlas

   May 2023 — Present

   Research assistant at Washington University in St. Louis launching the St. Louis Zoning Atlas (STLZA), where I contribute to the finalization of the National Zoning Atlas, a legal research project advocating for zoning reform and democratizing zoning information to increase participation for land use decision making. The STLZA focuses on investigating national trends in planning that have historically disenfranchised groups based on socioeconomic status and race.
