As the Medical Administrative Officer and Division Officer aboard a U.S. Naval ship, I lead a team of 25+ Sailors in providing critical medical and dental services to maintain the health and readiness of our crew. In this role, I oversee a broad range of primary care and ancillary services, including laboratory operations, X-ray, pharmacy, behavioral health, preventive medicine, aviation medicine, blood bank management, sterilization room, material readiness for the ship, training programs, and emergency Role 1 medicine.I ensure these services operate efficiently and comply with Navy Medicine standards while managing the department’s administrative functions and resource allocation. My work directly supports mission-critical objectives and the well-being of Sailors and Marines in a fast-paced, operational environment.Key responsibilities include- Leading and mentoring a team of 25+ Sailors, fostering professional development, accountability, and operational excellence- Overseeing ancillary services such as laboratory, X-ray, pharmacy, behavioral health, preventive medicine, aviation medicine, and blood bank management, ensuring readiness and compliance with operational and regulatory standards- Managing medical and dental readiness, including training programs (BLS, ACLS, and emergency response drills)- Administering material readiness for the ship, including medical supplies and resource management- Driving health and wellness initiatives, including suicide prevention, substance abuse programs, and health promotion- Maintaining medical and dental records in alignment with HIPAA and Navy regulations.This role requires adaptability, strong leadership, and the ability to manage complex operations in a dynamic shipboard environment. I focus on ensuring the Medical and Dental Department delivers high-quality care and operational support that contributes to the success of the Navy’s mission.
