ABOUT ALEXIA VOLLMER

I am pursuing my master\'s of social work at the University of Chicago\'s Crown Family School on the health, mental health, and social care pathway. I hope to work with children and families in the mental health space, with a specific focus on anxiety and depression, developmental differences, and navigating issues within social systems. My current internship is at Lurie Children\'s Hospital\'s Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, working with children and adolescents experiencing mental and behavioral health challenges. Here, I engage with kiddos via individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy, as well as care coordination and discharge planning. Post-graduation, I intend to work towards my LCSW in Illinois. I would like to work and earn my supervision hours in settings such as hospitals, community care centers, and/or mental health clinics with children and families. As a social worker, I believe it is essential to look at people in context. As a social worker who wants to work with kids, I believe it is essential to collaborate with the family and the school, as well as giving children the opportunity to share their own story. I focus on teaching-learning and a family systems framework, but I am still developing my social work identity. Stay tuned!
